Artist’s Statement

I believe in enhancing a reality, not creating a new one. My objective is to capture a photographic moment with the intensity felt and present at the moment  the shutter opened. I shoot with a digital camera and record my work on RAW files. These files are then transferred to basic photo software, from which I proceed to lightly edit the overall composition with common adjustments, such as varying the levels of contrast and saturation embedded in the original digital image. If dust spots are present, then they are removed. I shoot with an intent, meaning that I create a composition in my mind and then shoot until I feel I have it.  It is later, when I look at the photos, that I am often surprised and amazed at the results. Photography is an exchange between a subject and an observer. The vast majority of details are unnoticed when the photo is taken. It is only after that the richness of the moment is revealed. This is where my intuited response to that moment comes to fruition.
